Ahmed and Samir both pass their high school exams, but Ahmed has higher grades. Dawlat wants her kids to be better than Zeinab's. Hafez stops sending the monthly allowance to Zeinab.
Zeinab buys a sewing machine and works on it with the help of her neighbor Umm Makram. Hussein decides to work in an auto workshop. Wahid decides to live with his mother, Sanyia.
Ahmed is upset with his brother Hussein when he sees him fixing the car of his cousin, Nahid. Hussein agrees to accompany Nahid to Fayoum to visit their aunt Ehsan.
Ahmed travels with Nahid and tells her that Hussein is busy. When Hussein tells his mother, Zeinab, that Soheir has been seeing Alaa, Zeinab slaps her.
Nahid visits her uncle's wife, Zeinab, after she learns that she's sick. When Dawlat finds out, she warns Nahid not to do it again. Hafez is upset after he finds out that his son, Hany, loves his secretary, Afaf.
When Hafez becomes furious with Hany, Susan, and Nahid, Dawlat locks him up in the balcony. Dawlat fires Afaf from Hafez's office. Dawlat wants Nahid to marry Alaa.
Soheir tells Ahmed that Alaa is just a classmate and Ahmed insults Alaa's mother. Hafez tells his brother, Wahid, that he will leave a sum of money with him in order to evade taxes.
Wahid gathers the boys and girls of the family and asks them to travel together to Fayoum to settle old family disputes. Hafez plots with a client to claim that Hussein stole his car.
Zeinab reproaches Hafez because she thinks that he's behind Hussein's arrest. Ahmed tells his cousin Nahid the cause of the old feud between his mother and her father.
When Sanyia finds the bag with Hafez's money, Dawlat takes it from her and deposits it in the bank under her name.
Dawlat kicks Hafez out of the house and he returns the money back to his account using the procuration Dawlat had given him.
Nahid travels with her mother and Susan to Turkey. Hany marries Afaf. Hafez's son, Samir, returns from abroad and asks his father to divorce his new wife. Hafez plots to get Hany to divorce Afaf.
Hafez threatens Ahmed to stay away from his daughter Nahid and return the letters she sent him. Sanyia tells Wahid that she wants to marry a younger man, and Abdel Badi'e fights with Sanyia.
Samir pressures his brother Hany to divorce Afaf but he refuses. Dawlat is enraged with Nahid after she goes to Zeinab and wants to cut off her allowance. Nahid decides to go to her aunt in Fayoum. When she meets Ahmed, they vow to get married.
Hany gets severely depressed after he was forced to divorce Afaf. Nahid graduates from the university and works as a teaching assistant. After graduation, Ahmed works in Aswan and then moves to Fayoum after Dawlat intervenes to keep him away from her daughter, Nahid
Afaf tells Nahid that she was pregnant when Hany divorced her, and that they have a six-year-old son. Zeinab is worried about her son Hussein after the Six-Day War, especially since the news coming from the army is not reassuring.
Hafez confesses to his daughter Nahid that he was behind his brother Shawky's death. Hussein returns from war, and he's in shock after he witnessed his friend's death. Susan tries to ease his pain but he pushes her away, and she decides to travel to the US with her brother.
Hussein recovers from his depression, and Zeinab asks Ahmed and Hussein to take back their father's rightful inheritance. Ahmed marries Nahid secretly, then leaves her and she has a nervous breakdown. Ahmed bargains with Hafez to divorce Nahid if he confesses to what he did to his brother.
Afaf plans with Wahid to bring Hany back to her, and Hany goes with her to Tanta. Nahid recovers from her breakdown after her divorce from Ahmed, and she gets her PhD.
The Egyptian army is victorious in the 1973 war. Ahmed asks Nahid to forgive him. Samir decides to interdict his father, but Hafez withdraws all the money and escapes. Dawlat gets paralyzed, and Zeinab asks her to live with her. Ahmed returns to Nahid and the two decide to reunite the family.
