Shosanna witnesses the murder of her family at the hands of Colonel Hans Landa, after Germany's occupation of France during World War II. Then, an opportunity presents itself to get revenge from the Nazis, at the same time that a military battalion is moving towards the same goal.

Inglorious Basterds is acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino’s latest bone-crushing title. The picture stars Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Elie Roth, Diane Kruger and Melanie Laurent. Apart from being successful at the box office, the title has received many awards and nominations. In particular, Christoph Waltz’s portrayal of Hans Landa has received much praise, earning him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and the Golden Globe among other honors. This title is typical of Quentin Tarantino in that it features graphic violence and high-powered dialogue. It is distinguished, however, by being an “alternate history” title. First Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) is the leader of the ‘Basterds’, a team of eight Jewish-American recruits that have, as their ultimate goal, the terrorizing of Nazi soldiers. Indeed, very early in the film Lt. Aldo Raine makes it clear to his recruits that they each owe him “one hundred Nazi scalps.” Aldo Raine and his team are inserted in France for a covert operation. However, due to a seemingly minor oversight their cover is blown. Thus they are forced to change the parameters of their mission. Masquerading as Italian filmmakers, Aldo Raine and his crew make it to the premier of a Nazi film at a Parisian cinema. Their task is to burn down the cinema, taking down as many Nazis as they can. Fortunately for them a couple of “big fish” are present in the Nazi crowd.
