Lauryn Kirk (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is a young woman from a small town in Indiana. She moves to Chicago where she hopes to join the Chicago School of Music and Dance. However, her attempt to join the prestigious school fails. To make matters worse, her rejection by the school is followed by a string of other let-downs. Eventually, Lauryn finds a job at a club. Unbeknownst to her, the experience of working at an unglamorous club is actually full of life lessons and avenues for self discovery.
