As friendship forms between the journalist Donald Woods and the activist Steve Biko, the turbulent atmosphere of the apartheid era in South Africa leads to a tragedy as Biko gets arrested and killed. With Woods trying to shed light on the injustice that befell Biko, he and his family land in trouble.
