Fifteen-year-old Lux has lived her whole life in foster homes. She decides it's time to take control of her life, and tries to locate her birth parents, Baze and Cate. When the judge rejects her petition to become an emancipated minor, she ends up living with her real parents.

Cate tries to be on her best behavior in front of the Child Protective Services employee, who grants her and Baze permanent custody of Lux. Lux's friends try to make her go back to her old life.

Baze takes Lux to meet his parents, and Cate comes along. Lux helps Baze to pay the rent of his bar. Cate wants to transfer Lux to the school that she graduated from.

Cate tries to make Lux's principal drop her suspension, and Lux is embarrassed when her foster care file gets leaked all over school. Baze is bothered when Cate doesn't host a radio station event at his bar.

In an attempt to become popular at her new school, Lux invites her classmates to a party at Baze's loft. Cate is jealous that Lux bonded with Baze more than she did with her.

When Baze joins Ryan and Cate on her radio show, things don't turn out the way they had in mind. Lux tries to help her boyfriend after he gets in trouble.

Lux tries to help Tasha locate her mother, so she wouldn't have to move to a new foster home. Cate wonders if she should come clean and tell Ryan what happened between her and Baze.

After Cate and Ryan break up, they're forced to pretend to be a happy couple when they host a wedding expo, and things get worse when Baze and Math arrive there as well. Baze turns to Jones to help him cheer Lux up.

Lux goes with Jones to the Winter Formal, and Baze recalls the night Lux was conceived. Cate chaperons at the formal to be close to Lux. Baze grows worried about Lux.

Cate and Baze's custody of Lux becomes at risk after Lux and Bug are picked up by the police. Cate's attempt to help Bug get a job at her radio station backfires, which strains Lux and Cate's relationship even further.

When Lux sees Jones kissing another girl, she's forced to confront her conflicted feelings for him. Ryan bonds with Lux after a storm leaves them stranded at the radio station, while Cate is trapped at Baze's bar.

Cate takes Baze and Lux on a road trip to find her estranged father who deserted her as a child. When Bug's friend trash Baze's bar, Lux tries to hide it from Baze.

As Cate is about to marry Ryan, she has to confront her feelings for Baze. As Baze finally realizes that he loves Cate, he finds out that she has already made her choice.
