Taking place in the 1940s, following his mother's death, Collin Fenwick is sent to live with his father's cousins, Dolly and Verena, in Alabama. As he gets to know the townspeople, he runs away with Dolly and the maid to an old treehouse to escape from Verena's ill-treatment.
