New Zealanders Bret and Jemaine (also known as Flight of the Conchords), try to find love and gig opportunities in New York City. Jemaine meets Sally, Bret's ex at a party, and falls for her. However, Bret ruins it for them.
Broke and needing money, Bret and Jemaine decide to look for jobs. However, only Bret manages to get a job holding signs, which leads Jemaine to do the gig Murray booked them with a replacement.
Brett is disappointed at Jemaine after bailing on him when a gang muggs them. However, he becomes worried when Jemaine doesn't return home.
Murray is concerned when Bret cancels a tour for the band to stay with his girlfriend Coco. The band is threatened by Jemaine's frustration and the heartbreak felt by their only groupie Mel, who likes Bret.
Jemaine runs into Sally once again, and dreams of a new life with her. However, his daydreaming is halted when she tells him she won't be with him until he has a place of his own.
Bret is upset when Murray comments on his small stature during a photo shoot. The same night, 1970s David Bowie tells Brett he should wear an eye patch, which unfortunately doesn't end well.
Insulted by a rude fruit seller, Bret and Jemaine retaliate with a music video. However, unlucky as they are, they find themselves facing a group of anti-Kiwi racists.
After meeting two ladies at the croissant shop, Brett and Jemaine face romantic issues with them.
Murray holds a warm-up tour for the band before their big concert at Central Park. Meanwhile, the boys are fascinated with some girls who play water polo, almost wrecking the tour and their relationship with Murray.
The boys earn two new fans after playing at a local world music jam. However, their original fan Mel grows suspicious of the two new ones.
Bret and Jemaine hire an amateur actor to cheer Murray up after a disappointing gig. The actor screws up when, instead of giving them a gentle rejection call, he gets carried away and offers the band an unbelievable record deal.
Murray hires a new bongo player to join the Conchords, which leads to an unexpected chain of events.
