Roland Michell studies literature, specifically the works of the poet Randolph Henry from the Victorian Era. He comes across some love letters written by the poet himself to a woman who, clearly from the letters, is not his wife. Ronald's interest in finding out the identity of this woman leads him to travel in search of the real story, in the company of the researcher, Maud.
