Akkash's men plunder the stores, and the police utilizes Abu Ezz's help to investigate the matter. Al-Zibak proposes to Akkash to attack the French soldiers. Akkash gets doubly mad and decides to avenge his mother's sorrowful death on the residents of the neighborhood.
Al-Zibak and a group of Akkash's men form an anti-French resistance movement, but they keep its activity a secret. French soldiers storm the houses of the neighborhood in search of officer Roshdy whom they accuse of dereliction of duty. Akkash increases the levy on the neighborhood.
Abu El-Ezz is saddened with Akkash's insistence on vengeance, the vengeance that he attributes to the harm that has been done to his mother as well as his failed marriage to Zomorod, Khatoun's sister. Saied pities his father Akkash who is a mere bandit. Al-Zibak is arrested by the French troops.
The chief urges Karim, the leader of the French soldiers, not to storm people's houses again and to return Roshdy safe and sound. Akkash thinks of smuggling Al-Zibak from the hospital. Karim raids the neighborhood and the chief's house, and he arrests and interrogates a group of young men.
When Al-Zibak's unbridled horse injures Khatoun, Karim take her into the hospital. Karim shortly develops feelings for her and he is captivated by her beauty. The French troops torture Roshdy. Akkash manages to smuggle Al-Zibak.
Abu El-Ezz learns that Akkash smuggled his brother Al-Zibak. Karim manages to get information about Khatoun from barber Abu Gabry. Farouk, Abu El-Ezz's son, and the doctor are arrested for withholding information regarding Al-Zibak's escape. Khatoun regains her consciousness.
Karim is getting infatuated with Khatoun, which reminds Al-Zibak's of his love to her. Karim tries to win Abu El-Ezz over and promises to release all the detainees. Abu El-Ezz rages when Akkash levies a new tax, and he accuses him of being the reason why his son is arrested.
Abu El-Ezz permits Akkash to see his son, but that doesn't stop him from levying the tax anyway. Karim fulfills his promise and Farouk is released. However, Abu El-Ezz gets mad when he learns that Farouk turned Akkash in. Khatoun warns Karim from Akkash who intends on vengeance.
Khatoun gets out of the hospital. Daniel and Akkash plot against the residents of the neighborhood as they set fire to their houses and their stores. Karim and his men help the residents extinguish the fire, while Abu El-Ezz and his men head to the mountain to confront Akkash and his men.
Khaled resists Akkash and the latter shoots him, so Khatoun shoots at Akkash who flees to the mountain while Karim takes Khaled to the hospital. Back in the neighborhood, people try to reconstruct what has been demolished to breathe new life into their neighborhood.
Khaled's wife, Nemat, steals money from her father-in-law's room. Abu Helal and his men attack a French camp and seize all their weapons. The doctor amputates Akkash's arm.
Khaled is getting back on his feet. Akkash decides to wage another attack on the neighborhood. Abu El-Ezz invites Karim and the residents of the neighborhood to dine at his place. Zomorod senses Khatoun's admiration for Karim. Al-Zibak asks Abu El-Ezz to avoid bloodshed by returning Saied to Akkash.
Al-Zibak returns to the mountain with Saied, Akkash's son, and urges Akkash to ease things at the neighborhood. Zomorod advises Khatoun to tell her father about Karim, but he also warns her about the grave consequences of such a relationship.
Fahd proposes to Khatoun. Akkash attacks the neighborhood and, despite Abu El-Ezz's attempt to keep him away, Karim intervenes and murders Akkash. Al-Zibak vows revenge on Karim.
Zomorod breaks down in the events of Akkash's death. Al-Zibak returns Saied along with everything Akkash seized to Abu El-Ezz in exchange for his brother's corpse. Akkash's condolence tent is held at Abu El-Ezz's house. Karim quits.
Jandal tells Al-Zibak that Akkash cooperated with the French troops and that's why they supplied him with weapons. Khatoun is shocked to hear of Karim's resignation. Karim is saddened by the news that Khatoun will marry Fahd. Al-Zibak decides to resist the French colonizer.
Karim sends Khatoun a letter with the nurse, urging her to elope with him. Wedad encourages Khatoun to run away, and Al-Zibak gets mad when he learns about Fahd's marriage to Khatoun. Officer Nasri takes Karim's position following the latter's resignation.
Jondol communicates to the French troops the intention of Al-Zibak to take revenge on Karim. Al-Zibak captures two French soldiers. Khadija's secret is revealed, and it turns out that she doesn't want to marry because her hair has fallen off. The French and Al-Zibak's men get into a battle.
Right before her wedding day, Khatoun runs away, and Al-Zibak's suggests to marry her to evade her father's wrath.
While her family is relentlessly looking for her, Khatoun marries Karim, and news of their elopement spread across the neighborhood. Al-Zibak plans for a new attack on the French troops.
Karim decides to join in the rebels' fight against the French troops, and Khatoun tells him where the weapons are hidden. Al-Zibak tells Abu El-Ezz that Khatoun married Karim and he was their witness.
Karim tells Khatoun that their marriage has earned him the wrath of the French troops. Dalida insists on meeting Karim to make sure he's carrying out his mission. Fahd vows revenge on Khatoun and Karim.
Abu El-Ezz disowns Khatoun and swears to murder her and Karim. Al-Zibak and his men attack a French camp.
Khalil gets injured in the clash. Abu El-Ezz refuses to reconcile with Fahd and his father after they deliberately insulted him. Midwife Umm Khadija asks to meet Khatoun. The French troops disavow Karim.
Zomorod is reluctant to tell her father that Khatoun asked to see her. Dalida is enraged that Karim had another wife. Karim, meanwhile, resumes his scheme and joins Al-Zibak's resistance movement to spy for the French.
Al-Zibak asks Khatoun about Dalida whom Karim has been frequenting her place, and when Khatoun confronts Karim, he tells her it is his sister Nahed. Karim, meanwhile, studies the geology of the mountain to find a way for the French troops to attack it.
Abu El-Ezz disowns Zomorod for seeing Khatoun. Al-Zibak wages an attack on a train carrying the French troops, and Karim performs well with Al-Zibak and his men.
Zomorod tries to find out who is trying to bring about the total collapse of their family. Abu Fahd refuses to reconcile with Abu El-Ezz. Tahseen, Nemat's brother, insists on Joining Al-Zibak's men.
Following the dispute between Abu Fahd and Abu El-Ezz, Wedad returns to her father's house. Khaled leaves the neighborhood and joins the resistance, but he is shocked to see Karim there.
Karim reports to Daniel and the French troops that the resistance movement is increasing in number. Al-Zibak eventually learns of Karim's foul intrigues and murders him, then proceeds to fight the French troops.
Khatoun tells Khaled it was Nemat who stole the jewelry and encouraged her to elope with Karim. She also vows revenge on Al-Zibak for murdering Karim, and Al-Zibak tries to find evidence for Karim's treason.
Khaled and Al-Zibak try to persuade Khatoun that Karim was a traitor and he had to be murdered. Abu El-Ezz learns from Zomorod that it was Nemat who stole the jewelry and has been reporting their most private matters to Abu Fahd. She also tells him that Khatoun is pregnant
Al-Zibak tries to find evidence for Karim's treason. Khadija reproaches her mother for supporting Nemat in her foul schemes. Ezz El-Din and Fahd quarrel. Fahd incites Khaled to kill Khatoun.
It is revealed that Nemat has plotted to tear the family apart. Khadija tells Khatoun that Khaled rescued her from the Ottoman soldiers in the past. Ayoub and Fahd go to murder Khatoun, but Fahd and Al-Zibak clash, and Al-Zibak stabs him.
