A married couple struggle, as Nader wants to stay in Iran to look after his father, who suffers from Alzheimers, while his wife Simin wants to travel abroad with their daughter in hopes of a better life.

Loyalty, Truth and Honor are the main slogans of the Iranian film that tells the story of a divorced couple "Nader" and "Semin". Through the movie, the wife tries to convince her husband with the idea of immigrating and working abroad, however he refuses her idea and to let her go. As a result she refuges to law, get divorced and lives at her parents place. The lonely husband suffers from his old "AD" patient father, leading him to hire a servant to look after his father and to manage the house stuff. However, a dispute occurs between "Nader" and the servant, he gets angry and unconsciously he throws her on the stairs and she loses her baby. The servant sues him claiming that he intended to abort her.
