The mechanical engineer Mahmoud is denied from having a job at the university due to his father, as he is unjustly accused of the active labor movement, and his brother Ahmed, a member of the April 6 Youth Movement, that led to his arrest several times. Mahmoud and his friend Salem are arrested for the explosion of Salem's boat motor in the sea.

Mahmoud and Salem are accused of blowing up a factory in Rasheed prior to the president’s visit, because the father of his ex-fiancée, Sherine, filed a report to the State Security. As Mahmoud's father (Abdel Nasser), Ahmed, and his brother-in-law (Hussein), get imprisoned, Salem confesses under torture to plotting to kill the president of the republic.

News of Mahmoud’s arrest reaches the press and people demonstrate in front of the State Security, so a decision is issued to transfer him and Salem to the prosecution to investigate with them for violating the law not to fish at sea. Abdel Nasser, Hussein, and those arrested with them are released, and Mona goes to defend Mahmoud.

Mahmoud is released after he denies what had happened to him at the State Security. Ahmed is hosted by a former general in the Ministry of Interior and he admits what happened to Mahmoud and Abdel Nasser at the State Security. Mahmoud travels with his sister, Tahia, and her husband Shafi’ to work with him, but they are caught by bandits.

As it turns out that the kidnappers repeat the matter whenever they want something from the government, Shafi' manages to deceive them, so they release them. Mahmoud settles with them in Port Said and takes over the work with Shafi'.

As Ragia tells her brother Shamil that she had an affair with Ahmed, he beats her. As Mahmoud goes with Kamel to the port to start work, he sees a girl working in a boat and helps her fix the engine of her boat.

Ragia tells Ahmed about what Shamil did, so he goes undercover with his friends and they beat him. As Mahmoud fights with two men for trying to hit Aisha (the boat girl), the relationship between them strengthens. Mahmoud goes to Mansoura and starts distributing medicines to pharmacies.

Haitham asks the officer, Yasser, to see Ahmed's file. As Mahmoud discovers that what he is distributing are narcotic pills, he disposes it and confronts Shamil and beats him.

As Mahmoud leaves Port Said and returns to Rasheed, Hussein gets him a job in a workshop in Alexandria.

Mahmoud tells his father that Shafi' is selling narcotic pills, and he travels to check on Ahmed. Ahmed threatens Haitham that if he doesn't stay away from him, he will tell Shamil of his previous relationship with Ragia while he was traveling and of her abortion.

As Mahmoud takes over his new job with Jaber in the workshop, Abdel Nasser travels to Port Said and confronts Tahia and Shafi' about selling narcotic pills to pharmacies.

Mahmoud moves to live with Ismail, who works with him in the workshop, and Abdel Nasser asks Hussein to send his friends to scare Shafi'. An arrest warrant is issued for Ahmed, but he manages to escape from the State Security.

Ahmed goes to Mahmoud and leaves a bag with him, and he hides in Ragia's house. Hussein's friends go and intimidate Shafi' and warn him not to continue selling narcotic pills.

As Shafi' deceives Hussein’s friends and hands them the goods in the stores to get rid of them, the Mary Gerges church is blown up. Ahmed goes to Mahmoud to take the bag from him, but the State Security men surprise him and he manages to escape them. So they raid Mahmoud’s house and arrest him and his friends.

Hussein tells Abdel Nasser about what his friends had done with Shafi' and gives him a recorded video of the incident. As Ragia learns that Jaber, Mahmoud, and those with him had been arrested in the apartment, Haitham begins torturing Mahmoud and his friends.

Abdel Nasser, Jaber, and Hussein are arrested and tortured. Assem dies of torture, and Ismail testifies falsely against them. The media announces that the one responsible for blowing up the church was the Industrial Organization consisting of Mahmoud, Assem, Ahmed, Ismail, and Abdel Rahim.

As Mahmoud gets imprisoned in Wadi el-Natrun prison for fifteen days, Ragia tells Shamil about her previous relationship with Haitham, and her marriage to Ahmed. Mahmoud meets Dr. Ibrahim Abdel Hamid, a nuclear energy engineer in prison.

Abdel Rahim tells Mahmoud that he had not been brought before the prosecution and his statements were not taken by the State Security. Abdel Nasser and Mona the lawyer are still trying to reach Mahmoud's place of detention.

Mahmoud refuses to work with Dr. Ibrahim. Shamil tells Ragia that he had filed a complaint against Haitham that explains what Haitham had done to her.

As Abdel Nasser goes to the sit-in, Wadi al-Natrun prison gets raided, so Mahmoud and Abdel Rahim try to escape. However, Abdel Rahim receives a bullet and falls dead, and Mahmoud manages to escape.

Mahmoud hides in one of the houses, contacts Sherine and tells her that he is alive, and takes a boat and heads to Alexandria.

As Mahmoud arrives at Ahmed's house in Alexandria, Ahmed is martyred in Tahrir Square, much to Mahmoud's shock.

As Ahmed’s body is buried among his family and friends, Abdel Nasser and Mahmoud attend Ahmed’s burial. Shafi' goes to offer his condolences, but Mahmoud beats and kicks him out. Tahia returns with Shafi' to Port Said, and Mahmoud hides in the boatyard with Salem.

Tahia contacts Mahmoud and Shafi' sees and beats her. Mahmoud and Ragia hide in Mona's house. Mohamed Ghoneim, Haitham's manager, gets suspended from work.

Ragia gives Shafi's weapon to Mahmoud, who leaves a threatening message for Haitham. As Mahmoud hides in the house of the journalist Omar Shaheen, Abdel Nasser returns from the sit-in and finds that Fatima, his wife, has left the house and became a resident of the mosque.

Shafi' beats Tahia and Mahmoud learns of the matter, so he seeks the help of the bandits who had detained him before, to beat Shafi' and Kamel. Tahia and her children return to Rasheed, and Haitham and other officers are suspended from work.

Mahmoud travels to Tanta and Ismail’s mother tells him that her son had been burned to death during his transfer to Wadi al-Natrun prison. Mahmoud goes to Abdel Rahim’s house in Upper Egypt to be surprised that he is still alive. Abdel Rahim goes to testify with him, but he gets shot and dies.

Abdel Rahim's body is buried, and his mother and wife give power of attorney to Mahmoud to file a case to recover his right. As the State Security building is stormed, Mahmoud obtaines his case file.

The State Security building in Nasr City is raided, and Omar finds Ismail detained there. Ismail’s mother refuses to file a report to the Public Prosecution Office about the detention of Ismail, who gets transferred to a mental hospital. Omar gets killed, and Mahmoud surrenders himself to the prosecution.

Haitham is interrogated and is not found guilty. Mahmoud is released from the prosecution. As Ragia agrees with Mahmoud and abducts Haitham's kids, Haitham meets and shoots him, but Mahmoud survives. Haitham is arrested and Mahmoud marries Sherine.
