In 1940, the young Polish woman Nina, accompanied by her child, is deported by the Soviet army to the rugged lands of Siberia. Nina is forced to work on a state farm under the strict surveillance of the Russian political police. As days pass, Nina's child becomes ill, and she goes in search of medicine with a group of Kazakh nomads, hoping to save her child.
