Set in the 1350 AH, Abu As'aad (As'aad's father) finds a baby on the street, and he asks Hila to look after him until he finds his parents. Khaled grows impatient when they fail to find the baby's family.
A man proposes to Sarah, Abu As'aad's sister. Mohsen invites his new neighbors over for dinner to get to know them. Abu As'aad gets mad when his son goes for the movies and comes back fascinated with the world he just saw on screen.
Umm Ghazil (Ghazil's mother) tells Hila that Khaled is the father of the foundling, and his mother is her daughter Ghazil. Khaled denies knowing Ghazil and swears to his brothers Mohsen and Mohamed as well as his mother Hila that he doesn't know her.
Youssef tells his uncle, Khaled, that Ghazil tried to seduce him but he turned her down. Hila calls Ghazil and her mother to come and meet Khaled, and it turns out it is Mohsen whom Ghazil mistakenly belives to be Khaled. Mohsen is her baby's father.
Mohsen admits that he is the baby's father and recounts how he met Ghazil. Mohsen's mother urges him to pay money to Umm Ghazil to guarantee she won't scandalize him, and to equally pay Aziza to look after the baby.
Sarah prepares for her wedding. Torfa asks her nephew, Sa'ad's father to set up her son Hamoud with his Levantine neighbor Sa'adiya. Aziza looks after Mohsen's baby.
Mohamed tells his mother and his aunt that the Imam of the mosque refused to wed Hamoud to his daughter Sa'adiya, and suggested that Mohamed marry her instead. The family rejects Mohamed's marriage to Sa'adiya. Sarah's wedding is held.
Sarah moves to her husband's house. The police arrest Hamoud, and his brothers Mohamed and Mohsen try to get him out of prison.
Khaled is interrogated in Hamoud's case and the latter is released. Hila is shocked when Mohsen attacks their neighbor, Sheikh Mohamed Sa'ied, and urges him to apologize, which Mohsen refuses.
Mohsen travels to Egypt to propose to Suheir, but he simultaneously develops feelings for his cousin Gahir. Mohamed is shocked to learn they have a grand piece of land in the city.
Mohamed and Mohsen search for the deed to the land, but Sarah's family prove their right to it. Unwilling to negotiate, they take it to court. Khaled tells his mother that Mohsen left his Egyptian fiancée.
Khaled agrees with Sarah's husband's family to leave their land in exchange for giving up part of it. Hila reproaches her son Mohsen for getting married hastily, fearing Khaled will follow his example.
Mohsen's mother forces him to marry Mody, against his wish to marry her sister Gahir whom Khaled loves. Their uncle Abu Nasser, however, reveals that Gahir and Mohsen are milk siblings.
Khaled tells his mother that he loves Gahir and wants to wed her. Mohsen learns that the police are monitoring his friend Rashed's house for his involvement in political activities.
Khaled and all the family search for Rashed who is arrested on charges of distribution of publications, and Mohsen grows fearful he might be interrogated. Sheikh Mohamed arranges secret political meetings at his house.
Mohsen accepts to marry Mody, and Khaled marries Gahir.
Khaled buys a new car instead of his brother Mohsen's, and he starts working at his uncle's building, hoping his uncle will give him an apartment there.
Gahir and Sarah are pregnant. Khaled and his friend Hazaa' are arrested and sentenced to six months in prison, with whipping, on charges of drinking alcohol and attacking policemen.
Gahir and Hamou'd wife give birth. Khaled is released, but his felony stands in the way of his getting a job.
Mohsen travels to Egypt for his wife to receive treatment. Sheikh Mohamed instills hatred for the Arab rulers in the hearts of his followers from the Muslim Brotherhood. Khaled buys a piece of land, hoping to turn it into a gas station.
Umm Ghazil tries to clear the air between her daughter and Mohsen and suggests for them to marry in secret to have a baby together. The police demolish Khaled's project.
Khaled is arrested and his uncle bails him out. He starts working on a cab. Mohsen accepts to marry Ghazil in secret, but his brother prevents him. Youssef's grandmother refuses to wed him their neighbor Gazy due to their different social classes.
Hila asks Gazy's mother to leave the neighborhood. Khaled's new business looks up, and his employer, a wealthy businessman, entrusts him with the money. Mohamed marries Sa'adiya.
