The events take place in an Egyptian village where the mayor, who is tyrannical and oppressive, rules over the people, exploiting their ignorance and poverty. Driven by greed for a beautiful girl, he falsely accuses her lover and has him imprisoned. However, an old man intervenes and marries her to protect her for her lover until he is released.
