Set in the 1940s, a naval officer becomes infatuated with a mysterious girl named Noor Al Qamar. He refuses to marry his loving cousin, who marries another and finds happiness. As time passes, he realizes he has accomplished nothing meaningful, quits the military job he never liked, becomes a lawyer, then a member of parliament, and eventually marries a widow.
