After an issue regarding getting inebriated on the job, Jesse Stone gets an offer to replace the newly retired chief of a small town, only to discover that the town holds more trouble than it appears at first glance.
In the town of Paradise, police chief Jesse Stone starts looking into the life of a local girl after her body is found, trying to piece together how the once straight-laced teenager went on a downhill that led to her tragic fate.
In order to preoccupy himself so he wouldn't drink, Jesse Stone, the police chief of a small town in New England, revisits an old case of a bank teller who got killed; meanwhile, he also looks into an alleged rape case.
After a stakeout goes south, Jesse Stone is left on thin ice with the Town Council, which isn't made any better by him making a controversial firing. He attracts their ire more after he gets hired by a grieving mother who thinks her child, who was presumed dead after a kidnapping, is still alive.
