Four girls meet at school, and despite their differences, they share one thing in common: their lives among their families aren't really stable, and they experience emotional frustration for distinct reasons.
On a normal day in their lives, Hend's stepmother denies her all the privileges that she gives to her own daughter. Hend and Aisha reproach Naglaa for meeting a boy behind her parents' back, and Kawthar tells her daughter Mariam how she forcefully married her father.
Moaz fights with his younger brother, assaults his mother, and prevents his sister from going to her friend's house. Meanwhile, Hend's stepmother is still as heartless as ever, and Naglaa is tortured to see her parents quarrel fiercely that her father loses consciousness.
Mariam's father is taken to the hospital after a pelvic fracture, and her mother refuses to take care of him. Hend is also taken to hospital after her stepmother beats her mercilessly.
Salma is suspended from school after she spreads rumors claiming that Hend is a serial killer's daughter. Hend later learns that her father intends to leave their house to Fatma and Salma after his death. Mariam suspects that her mother is seeing another man.
The girls are restless as they discover things about their past, and sense a change in their current lives.
Actions escalate as Moaz is trying to control his sister's life completely, and Fatema is forcing Hend to do all the housework, while Mariam's mother is still trying to get closer to her husband's doctor.
Mariam informs her friends that her mother is seeing another man. Aisha's brother is still trying to control all the family. Naglaa's relationship with her mother is still unstable and distant, and Hend is chosen to represent the school in a competition.
Naglaa attempts suicide after she is caught with a young man, and her father blames the mother for her negligence. Mariam confronts her mother with her true feelings towards her, whereas Hend's mother prevents her from participating in the competition.
After his recovery, Mariam's father returns home. At Hend's house, her stepmother sets fire to her clothes to prevent her from going to school. Naglaa and Aisha quarrel over a significant matter.
Rapid changes take place in the girls' lives: Kawthar intends to move out, Mosaeed travels with his second wife, Fatema kicks out Hend who moves to her aunt's house.
At her aunt's house, Hend faces even greater problems as her aunt's husband harasses her. Naglaa informs her friends of her intention to steal her mother's money to help someone out, and Hessa still awaits Mosaeed's return.
All marriages are at stake as Fatema kicks her husband out of home, and Mosaeed's wife finds woman's clothes in his suitcase, while Kawthar seeks divorce from her husband.
Despite all the challenges and difficult situation the girls go through, they all make it and pass their exams except for Salma. Additionally, disappointed at their parents' indifference, the girls start to act on their behalf.
Some families start anew, and some are still seeking a fresh beginning. Mariam forces her mother to leave home, while Aisha urges her parents to give it another shot, while Hend is trying to contact her mother's family.
Mariam's mother marries the doctor. Mosaeed's second wife is pregnant. Naglaa does one more thing behind her parents' back, but this time it's more serious, and Fatma is thrilled that someone proposed to her daughter.
Now that the girls are growing older, Salma marries and travels abroad, Aisha joins the faculty and gets pregnant, Mariam accuses her stepfather of harassing her, and Naglaa returns from America.
The truth about Mariam's accusations is revealed, and her mother returns to the doctor. Moaaz gets married, and his wife resents the way he treats her. Hessa looks after her husband's son.
The girls' emotional lives are experiencing some changes as Hend develops feelings for her professor at college, Mariam starts dating Abdullah, and Salma has a divorce after which she returns to her mother's house.
Hend assaults her stepmother as the latter lies and says Hend is a bastard just to dissuade Badr from marrying her. Salma's mother learns that her daughter is pregnant, and she tries to fix things between her and her husband, and Aisha rejects a man who approaches her.
The girls' emotional lives are at crossroads as Khaled confesses love to Naglaa, Abdullah proposes to Mariam, Hend's stepmother is trying to set her up with anyone to get rid of her, and Aisha meets Gassem and actually likes him.
All the girls get married except for Naglaa who is still enjoying her singlehood. Hend, Aisha and Mariam aren't really happy in their marriages.
The girls' struggles with their responsibilities as mothers continue, and Naglaa is devastated to know that Saoud got married.
Mosaeed quarrels with his second wife as she never takes care of their daughter. Kawthar is trying to support her daughter Mariam financially, and Hend is growing impatient with her husband's lack of a sense of responsibility.
Once again, the families go through hell as they are trying to reach stability, both financial and emotional. Gassem is dissatisfied that his wife gave birth to a girl, Hend cannot pay the rent, and Naglaa rejects all the men that propose to her.
Khaled's father scolds his son after the latter's suspension from school. Aisha learns that her husband is married to another woman, but she cannot really act upon that knowledge since she has no place to go, and Naglaa urges Salah to decide whether he really wants to marry her.
Naglaa breaks up with her fiancé after Salah returns to her, whereas Hend and her husband quarrel as he informs her he is going to marry once again.
Violence and despair take on a new level as Khaled is arrested after he murders his friend, Rasha falls off the stairs, and Fatema is diagnosed with cancer. All girls reflect on their lives, and ponder over how different it could've been to marry other men, or even stay single.
Gassem marries for a third time and is soon to divorce her, Abdullah is arrested for not paying back his debts, and Mariam intends to ask for a divorce. Saoud is trying to approach Naglaa.
Gassem is paralyzed, Abdullah is released from prison, Hend is certain that she isn't a motherless child, Salah returns to Naglaa, and Fatma starts to regret her mistreatment of Hend. The girls turn into other versions of their mothers, but they are trying to start afresh.
