The elite live at the front, while the poor live at the back. But 17 years later, the tail's inhabitants start a rebellion led by Curtis (Chris Evans).

After a failed attempt to slow down global warming, an ice age starts and destroys life on planet earth, sparing the lives of a few survivors who take refuge in a giant snow-piercing train. The elite live in the front of the train, while the poor inhabit the tail. After 17 years, the poor start an uprising led by Curtis (Chris Evans), and manage to free a prisoner Namgoong (Kang-ho Song), the man who built the doors dividing each car, and his daughter Yona. They offer him Kronol, an addictive drug, as payment for unlocking the doors, and continue their class-based revolution.
