Johan is an ambitious young man who is told by a gypsy woman that he is the son of the moon, and she teaches him that when clouds gather around the moon, it is an omen of danger. The gypsy is arrested for witchcraft and Johan escapes to Spain, only to discover the ship is sailing to "the New World". On the ship, he meets Trentatrippe when a storm causes them to dock on the coast of Florida, and they are arrested by local residents.
