The story follows a journalist named Rifaat Kamel, who is arrested in the 1960s for his bold writings and spends twenty-five years in a mental hospital. Over time, he actually develops a psychological illness and is committed to a psychiatric institution. During his imprisonment, his wife divorces him, marries another man, and abandons their children.
