This film follows Grigory Melekhov's eventful life during World War I, the Bolshevik Revolution, and the Russian Civil War. Young Cossack Grigory is both a victim and a hero of the revolution and the happenings in his world. Grigory falls for Aksinia, a married woman, and gets into a lot of difficulty. War and love fill the air.
