An acclaimed writer struggles with getting over his ex-wife, and raising his teenaged children, as they all try to grapple with the complicated thing called love.
Bill Borgans, accomplished novelist and divorcé, is still obsessed with his ex-wife three years after their split. His precocious, collegiate daughter is getting ready to publish her first novel, while beating back the romantic entreaties of the all-too-earnest Louis (Logan Lerman). While maintaining a casual affair with a married neighbor, Borgans himself faces writers block and a distinct writers' malaise.
