Maud Schoenberg (Isabelle Huppert) is an edgy film director beginning to work on a film about a woman in an abusive relationship when she suffers a stroke. After physical therapy, she continues on with the film, reeling in the aloof and manipulative Vilko Piran to play the male lead. Thus sets the stage for a painfully autobiographical tale about a run-in with a con man from director and writer Catherine Breillat.
