The police arrest Helmy because he rejects the British occupation of Egypt. His father, Gad, and his uncle, Abdel Azim, try to convince their relative Tharwat Al Darmali to mediate with the British to release him. However, when student demonstrations threaten Al Darmali, he thinks about hiding in Gad’s house in the countryside.
