The Eskimo boy Avik meets Albertine when he is 12 after getting flown into a hospital in Montreal to treat his tuberculosis. Years later, the two reunite as WWII rages on, but as sparks fly, they have to contend with the cultural differences between them and Albertine's relationship with another man.
