Hugo's cousin Eric, his wife Éléonore, and their children stay with an interesting French family in one of the castles on a remote Swedish island. Eric finds out that Hugo's first wife, Ophélie, lives upstairs. As a result, Hugo's marriage to Eleanor, with whom Eric falls in love, is illegal. He tries to force Éléonore to flee with him, but she refuses. Knowing this, Hugo tries to exact revenge on Eric.
