Three years after 9/11 and losing many of his friends, Tommy Gavin deals with the dangers of his job as a firefighter, while also watching over his estranged wife and children.
Tommy settles into his new life at his Staten Island fire station at the start of the second season. When Sully's new job is threatened by a phone call, Tommy soon finds himself a candidate to take back his previous position.
In season four, Tommy Gaven is in more trouble than ever. He is facing many threats to his life and is having trouble remembering things from his past.
In season five, Tommy and Lou compete for the love of a female journalist interested in the events of September 11, leading to an in-depth exploration of the past memories of the events that led to the attacks and the surrounding experiences of the entire team.
