On her birthday, Shams goes to a child-care organization where she brings the children gifts and tells them stories. She notices a timid boy, also called Shams, who seems to have been of a wealthy family but mysteriously ended up in juvie. She calms him down and promises to visit more often.
Shams runs into her ex-husband, Emad, whom she asked for a divorce due to his mother's mistreatment of her. As Emad asks her to get back together, Shams has a breakdown and calls her therapist, Dr. Farida.
As Shams gets ready to travel, Lady Nazly, Emad's mother visits her to convince her to get back with Emad. Shams's doctor encourages her to pluck up her courage and talk to Nazly. As Shams breaks down before Nazly, she latter feels shunned and humiliated.
Shams travels and meets her friend Nevine and her husband Yasser. As Yasser discusses business-related issues with Nour, the latter reprimands him for bringing work up.
Nour must reckon with the problem with the General Prosecutor, the travel ban, and Shams's realization that he is secretly married to Nahed. As they return to Cairo, a plane awaits to take them to Dubai. At home, Sabah learns of her grandchildren's dismissal from school.
Nour has a heart attack when the General Prosecutor summons him. Nahed goes to Nour's house to check on him. Meanwhile, news about Nour being a corrupt businessman of the ex-ruling regime earns him the contempt of the public. Dr. Emad reports Nour's death.
A grieving Shams tries to heal and move on following her father's death. As the children of the foster care visit Shams, they manage to temporarily get her out of her grief. Shams wants to adopt the child, Shams, and have him live with her.
Shams doesn't recognize her uncle when he comes to offer his condolences. It turns out he and Shams's father were often in disagreement. Shams finds documents proving their animosity. She's shocked when a decision of the preventive attachment of property is issued, and her bank accounts frozen.
Shams gets mad when Yasser calls her and says she'll need his help. Shams rejoices when she sees Sabah's grandchildren. Nevine comes to visit Shams and check up on her. Shams tells Nevine that she will need Sabah to stay by her side all the time.
The employees at Shams's stores are worried whether they'll get paid and she assures them. At university, the TA Hazem has a word with Salma regarding her call for demonstrations. Salma catches feelings for Hazem.
Shams rejoices when the lawyer assures her they'll win the case. However, Shams's joy is shortlived as she learns her store was robbed. The police accuse one of the guards, Fawzy, of being the robber.
When Mariam asks Hesham to be her private tutor, he conducts his lessons at Shams's villa. It turns out that Shams and Hesham are cousins. Yehia warns Karim against coming near Mariam. Shams and Hesham visit Fawzy's family to offer them help and support.
Hesham suggests teaching the children at Shams's villa music. Hesham tells Shams that he also had OCD but he recovered; he wishes her full recovery. A worker at Shams's store, Mona, tells Shams that her own husband is the one who robbed the store. Mona wants to report her husband to the police.
An anonymous number keeps calling Shams, and she suspects it is Yasser. Hesham and his family invite Shams over for lunch. Shams has a blessed day with them as they share anecdotes about Shams's mother; they also bring up the problems between Shams's maternal uncle and her father, Nour.
Sabah's grandchildren learn that their grandmother is sick and must rest. Sabah's illness leaves Shams anxious. Shams calls Hesham for reassurance, and he asks her about her relationship with Emad.
Shams heads to court to attend the hearing in the case accusing her father of graft. The accusation is proven true and Nour's property is confiscated. Nahed offers Shams to stay at her place, but Shams dismisses her offer and tells her she wants to depend solely on herself.
Shams stays at her uncle's place and Hesham helps her settle. Emad meets Hesham and asks him to persuade Shams to get back with him.
Nevine pays Shams a visit and offers her a post at the tourist resort. Shams follows the recent updates on the case with the lawyer.
Shams gives Sabah some of the gold jewelry to sell in order to look after the children at the orphanage. Shams starts working at the resort in an attempt to get her act together.
Yasser tries to rape Shams but she runs away and calls Hesham. As Shams tells Nevine about her husband's behavior and stalking, Yasser uses Shams's mental illness against her and tells Nevine that Shams must be making things up. Nevine believes her husband.
The surveillance cameras prove Yasser's lies. Sabah asks her grandchildren to look after Shams shall anything bad happen to her. Shams decides to stay at Sabah's house since it's only there she felt in peace.
Reda sees Shams and believes she is his long-absent daughter. Hazem visits Salma at the pharmacy where she works and asks her to resume her studies. Sabah gets better. Nahed advises Shams to consult another lawyer.
Shams lands a job at her friend's beauty salon. Shams suspects that her lawyer Rateb isn't working on acquitting her late father. Meanwhile, Nahed hires another lawyer.
Shams visits the child Shams to check up on him. She wants him to stay with her for a few days. Hesham wants to propose to Shams, but his father urges him to wait. Shams has a hard time working at the beauty salon because some of the clients are former acquaintances of her.
Ramadan and Yehia return the stolen items to the pharmacy, while the owners of the pharmacy believe Salma stole them and threaten to report her to the police. Lawyer Ihsan tells Shams not to trust Rateb.
Hesham visits Shams and gives her a book to translate to offer her a way out of her financial difficulty. Shams wants young Shams to live with Sabah's grandchildren. Shams asks Yehia for help with her father's case, and he gladly accepts.
Young Shams disappears, but they find him at Reda's house. Reda starts working with Rateb, and he learns that Rateb intends to flee the country. Shams tells Ihsan about Rateb's scheme.
Sabah leaves the hospital. Yehia manages to get a copy of the case's file and sends it to Ihsan. Ihsan learns that Rateb has been hiding important documents that could've ended the case favorably. He also learns that Rateb was bribed by one of Nour's arch-enemies.
Salma and Shams manage to contact one of Reda's cousins through Facebook. Reda passes away and leaves his property to Shams and Ramadan. Shams learns that Hesham intends to travel and she tries to prevent him.
Shams finishes translating the book. Nour is acquitted from all charges against him. Shams returns to her villa alongside Sabah and her grandchildren. Sabah's grandchildren throw a party in Shams's honor, and Hesham as well as the children from the orphanage show up.
