During World War II, Lieutenant Joe Rossi is 1st Officer aboard a Liberty ship called the SS Seawitch, which is sailing in a large convoy from Halifax to Murmansk. After German submarines attack the convoy, separating the Seawitch from the convoy, Rossi attempts to get it to Murmansk against all odds.
