During World War II, Lieutenant Joe Rossi is 1st officer aboard the Liberty, which is sailing in a large convoy from Halifax to Murmansk. After German submarines attack the convoy, destroying all but the Liberty, Rossi attempts to get it to Murmansk against all odds.
