When her husband Ref'at abandons his wife Ahlam and their two children Ahmed and Noura to earn money, Ahlam starts anew as she marries Sadeq and tells her children that their father died. She and Sadeq raise the children together but all is threatened when Ref'at shows up.

Despite being filthy rich already, Ref'at wants to earn more money. He sends his assistant to Sadeq to ask him to give him custody of his children. When Ahlam falls ill, she tells her children the truth about their father and she has to face their wrath.

When Ref'at showers them with money, Ahmed and Noura grow playful and neglect their studies. Ahlam is suspicious about Ref'at's source of income, while Sadeq is saddened by the children's indifference towards him. Ref'at travels on business, much to Ahmed and Noura's surprise.

Ahmed and Noura quarrel with Ahlam over Ref'at, and the latter returns when Noura falls ill and admits her to the hospital. Anwar, Ahlam's neighbor, wants to get closer to Ref'at merely for his money. Sadeq grows increasingly jealous of Ref'at.

Adel and Noura get closer. Ahlam quarrels with Ahmed when he asks Sadeq to divorce her. Ref'at tells his children that he's married to Haifaa. Ref'at buys the building where Ahlam resides, and he forces Haifaa to move there with him.

Haifaa and Ahlam get closer, and Haifaa invites her and the neighbors to Ref'at's birthday party, while Noura invites Adel. Ref'at confuses and enrages everyone at the party when he reprimands Haifaa for inviting poor people. Laila, Fardous's sister, causes a fire at the building.

Ref'at is unsympathetic to Laila and gets her admitted into a psychiatric facility. Ahmed has an unregistered marriage with Afaf, a girl of poor origin. Ref'at grows merciless with his neighbors and the doorman. When Ahmed fails his exams, Ahlam kicks him out and Ref'at quarrels with her for it.

Sonia tells Ref'at about Ahmed's marriage to the waitress Afaf. Ref'at resumes his suspicious deals. He decides to kick boh Fardous and Laila out of the building. Ref'at and Sonia get closer.

Ref'at urges Ahmed to divorce Afaf. When Laila tries to kill Ref'at, he sues her. Haifaa suspects that Ref'at is having an affair. Ahlam forgives Ahmed when she learns that Afaf is pregnant. Adel and Najwa plot together to get the family's fortune, and Ahmed works with them.

Bondoq the vendor hits Ref'at's bag, only to see the money inside it. Ref'at refuses Adel's marriage to Noura and he fires both Adel and Ahmed. Following a quarrel between Ref'at and Ahlam, Ref'at is murdered and his money is stolen, prompting the police to start an investigation.

Ref'at is buried after an autopsy. The police investigate Adel, Haifaa, and Ahlam's family. Haifaa asks for her share of the inheritance, while Ahmed becomes the prime suspect as he is the one who cashed the check.

The police learn that Ref'at was secretly married to Sonia, and that the murder and the robbery are two unrelated crimes. Haifaa meets her secret lover and learns that Ref'at was married to Sonia. Sonia and Afaf have a confrontation, while the police investigate Bondoq.

The police grow suspicious about Ref'at's business. They investigate Sadeq who didn't go to work on the day of the crime. Anwar threatens Adel if the police discover their illegal acts.

At Sadeq's instigation, Ahmed goes to the factory to run his father's business, the thing that enrages Haifaa, Adel, and Anwar. When Ahmed dismisses Adel after a quarrel, Adel incites Noura against her brother. Ahmed is found dead at the factory.

The police suspect that Adel is Ahmed's murderer. It is soon discovered that Haifaa had a suspicious past prior to her marriage to Ref'at, and she hid the fact that her brother was an ex-convict. Laila tells Fardous that she knows who Ref'at's murderer is.

Laila gets Sadeq caught when she reveals that he stole the bag with the money. Adel and Anwar are arrested while smuggling the gold that was hidden in Ref'at's factory. Anwar confesses to killing both Ref'at and Ahmed after the latter refused to cooperate with them on smuggling the gold.
