Randa moves from Suez to Cairo to complete her university education and works as a journalist. Her expatriate relative, Mahgoub, returns and meets his childhood friend, Hassan, who has won the State Appreciation Award. Hassan is overcome by despair as a result of his defeat and withdraws into himself.
