Chapman is a British bank robber imprisoned in a prison on the island of Jersey. When World War II breaks out, and the Germans take over the island, they recruit Chapman to spy on his country, for the benefit of the German forces, but he contacts the British forces and offers to spy for them against the Germans in exchange for dropping his sentence.
