The story follows a French jewel thief named Pepe le Moko, who fleed France with the precious diamonds he had stolen and ended up in the Casbah neighborhood in Algiers, but as Inspector Slimane tries to catch him, things take a turn when Pepe crosses paths with Gaby, an attractive French woman who makes him reminisce about his former life in France.
