When Johann's village gendarme covets his wife, he sees a way to get rid of him by delivering him to the Nazis, claiming that he is a Jew. Johann is drafted into the S.S after a misunderstanding at the concentration camp he is sent to, a fact that leaves him in a world of trouble after WWII ends.
