Amna, the widow, takes over her husband's place at the factory to raise their two sons, but Azouz tries to exploit her with his love for her. The factory owner fires her twice, then takes pity on her. Azouz steals the project's money and kills Ismail, and people spread rumors that Amna is the one who burned down the factory.

Amna flees with her two sons. In a flashback, Azouz is unjustly imprisoned before working with Ismail. Amna seeks help from Souad and her husband. Azouz travels, impersonating a dead engineer. Amna is arrested, and her son, Ahmed, is raised by Souad. Laila is sent to an orphanage.

Amna is sentenced to life imprisonment and loses her mind in a psychiatric hospital. Azouz returns to the country as a partner in a stolen project with Akram Bey, marries his daughter, Engy, and has a daughter, Mervat, who has a heart condition.

Jamil returns to ask Azouz for a job, but discovers his deception and blackmails him financially. Ahmed enrolls in the Faculty of Law and Hassan in the Faculty of Arts, while Laila leaves the orphanage. After Akram Bey's death, Jamil covets the inheritance, and Amna is released from the hospital.

Amna searches for her son, Ahmed, and learns that Souad has left the villa and moved to Cairo, where she works as a bread seller to earn a living. Meanwhile, Azouz tries to get rid of Jamil by poisoning him with juice.

Jamil tells Azouz that he wrote his confessions in a letter to someone else and demands the factory as payment for his silence. Azouz travels to Cairo to start over, and fate brings Ahmed and Hassan together at an art gallery, and Azouz appoints Ahmed as his lawyer.

Jamil loses the factory due to gambling and seeks refuge with Azouz in Cairo. Azouz meets Hassan, and before Hassan's mother dies, she tells him of Amna's innocence. Mervat begins to fall in love with Hassan. Hassan meets Laila and becomes infatuated with her.

Mervat visits Laila and discovers that Hassan does not love her, while Hassan sends a card to Laila telling her that he is traveling abroad.

Laila tells Sabra about her feelings for Hassan and meets him outside several times. Azouz asks Hassan to propose to Mervat, but he refuses because he loves Laila. He then meets Amna and asks for Laila's hand in marriage.

Azouz learns that Laila is an orphan and vows to his daughter that she will not marry Hassan. He accuses Laila of stealing Mervat's brooch before conceding and asking her to stay away. In return, Jamil obtains her birth certificate and discovers that she is the daughter of the woman accused of killing Hassan's father.

Azouz shoots Jamil and takes his confession letter. Jamil informs the police before his death, and Azouz's secret is revealed. Mounir tells Ahmed that Amna is his mother and Laila is his sister. Mounir forces Azouz to give up the factory to Hassan and the villa to Amna, and then he is arrested. The events end with Laila marrying Hassan.
