During the sixties, the Mahana and Poata families, who belong to the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, live in constant conflict and ancient enmity. They both confront each other during a sheep shearing competition, and fourteen-year-old Simeon decides to rebel against his authoritarian grandfather in order to find out the reasons for the animosity between the two families.
