As the newly retired police officer Kevin Gable looks forward to a carefree life along with his fellow retired cop friends, his dreams are soon shattered when his eldest daughter Kendra moves back in with her boyfriend Chale.

Kevin decides to voice his disapproval of how Donna arranges the house to her liking, as he sets out to have things his own way. As Kendra attempts to toughen up Chale, her plan soon falls apart.

As Kevin looks forward to hanging out with his friends, he hires someone to do his chores for him, so that he can play football with his buddies. But when Chale finds out about his secret, Kevin tries to make him keep it hidden.

After Kevin can't pick a bonding activity with the guys, he ends up going with Donna to her all-female book club. As Kevin has fun with them at first, things soon take a turn for the worse.

As Kevin takes Donna to dinner to celebrate their wedding anniversary, his friend Goody finds out that he stole his hero story and made it his own, as he used it as an excuse when he forgot his anniversary years ago.

When Jack makes a new friend named Graydon, Kevin and Donna are excited about it. But when they find out that Graydon's parents are obnoxious, they set out to end Jack's friendship with Graydon.

As Donna feels too tired to give out candy on Halloween, she plans with Kevin to hide inside the house and pretend that there is no one home. But things don't go as they planned.

As Kevin runs into his old partner Jimmy, he becomes upset when he meets his younger partner Nick who tells him that Jimmy never mentioned him before. Jimmy gets back at Kevin when he invites him to an event in order to settle an old score.

As Kevin works as a bartender at Enzo's, he takes his advice to customers too far, as he becomes convinced that he's a life coach, until he discovers that his advice did more harm than good.

As Kevin hasn't had any luck in finding a job that he likes, he comes up with an idea to have his own business by having a food truck. He runs into some obstacles as he tries to get his project off the ground.

As Kevin feels that he's growing apart from his family, he tries to get everyone to spend some quality time together. As his many attempts to hang out with his family fail, he faces a dilemma when he has to choose between going to a concert by his favorite musician or staying with his family.

As Kevin steps in to look after Mott's kids while he's working, he gets more than he bargained for, as the task proves to be quite challenging. Kyle gives Donna a hand with Christmas shopping.

After Kevin learns that Chale got a job in order to buy Kendra an engagement ring, he gets motivated to keep his word to Donna, when he promised that he will get her a better ring when he can afford it. The only problem is how to keep her from finding out.

As Kevin attempts to cut down a tree in their backyard, he has to convince his neighbor to give her permission. But he faces a problem when he has to get along with her son Rutger first.

As Kyle becomes a local hero after he saves a cat from a fire, Kevin becomes jealous as he brags about saving a guy at the bar from choking. Donna and Chale quarrel over their opposing ideas about their wedding planning

As Kevin and Donna become friends with the chiropractor Peter and his wife, Kevin looks forward to enjoying the perks that Peter is willing to offer them. Kyle wants to be Chale's best man in spite of not being good friends.

Kevin butts heads with his childhood rival Terry Labasco when he finds out that he wants to reserve the church for his daughter's marriage, which happens to be the same date for Kendra's wedding as well.

As Donna's cousin Irene and her husband Stewart come for a visit, Kevin hatches a plan to avoid hanging out with them by staging an accident and organizing a neighborhood watch with the gang.

In order to pay for the wedding, Kevin and Chale work with Rootger at an electronics store warehouse. But when Chale gets promoted to the sales floor, Kevin becomes obsessed with competing with him.

When Kevin and Donna find out that they weren't invited by Goody and Didi on a weekend getaway, they set out to find other couple friends online. They end up taking Rootger and his girlfriend to the resort where their friends are staying.

After taking a job as an Uber driver, Kevin befriends Harry Connick Jr. who asks him to be his regular driver. The only problem is that Kevin lied to him about many things in order to impress him.

As Kevin tries to lose some weight in order to go to Mets fantasy camp, he enlists the help of Chale who coaches him through a juice cleanse. Chale tells Kevin an embarrassing story about himself.

Kevin comes out of retirement in order to help Detective Vanessa with a case, but his job interferes with the trip he looks forward to going to. As Kendra gets accepted into law school, Chale is offered a high-paying job.

As Kevin and Vanessa go undercover for their case, things get more complicated than they had planned. Donna clashes with her boss after she doesn't get a promotion at school. Chale finds out that the company he joined isn't doing so well.
