Despite having children in school and a sick wife, Ali neglects his family and depends on his daughter Sou'ad for everything. Essam neglects his studies and cheats on his exams. When his mother learns of what he did, she has a heart attack. Reem falls for her friend's brother.
As the mother's health deteriorates, the doctor informs Ali that she needs surgery. Sou'ad donates her kidney to her mother since her father can not afford the operation. Essam drops out of school and befriends a group of delinquents, while his younger sister stops caring about anything.
The family mourns when Sou'ad's mother dies. Ali's brother, Youssef, wants to take his land as a repayment for the money that he lent Ali. Essam grows erratic and rebels against his family, which causes his father to beat him.
Essam quarrels with his father after he gets arrested, prompting him to go to stay with his aunt. Ali sells his land for cheap to his brother. As Roqaia gets Ali a job in a luxurious hotel, Ali decides to leave his house and go to work at the hotel. Reem's relationship with Qais grows stronger.
Reem continues to go out with her friend's brother. The family worries about Essam. Ali loses his shop and considers emigrating to Europe. When Reem returns home late, a furious Essam refuses to let her in, but Sou'ad intervenes to resolve the situation.
Sou'ad looks after her siblings. Essam starts working in a bike repair shop. When Sou'ad kicks Essam out, his cousin gets close to him and gives him money. Reem and Qais grow closer. Ali returns home to a warm welcome from his family.
As Essam and his friend rob a house, his friend is hit by a car as they flee the scene. Reem sleeps with Qais, which burdens her and puts a strain on her psyche, leaving her family to suspect that she is ill. Sou'ad devotes herself to her work but catches feelings for her co-worker at the factory.
Qais abandons Reem and starts seeing another girl, leaving her wallowing in regret. Reem's cousin tries to get close to her. The police arrest Essam's friend who covers for Essam and takes the fall for the robbery. Sou'ad's co-worker hides the fact that he is married with children from her.
When Ali returns home, Essam enlists his help to travel to Italy. Gamal wants to marry Sou'ad, who is still upset that her sweetheart has lied to her. Reem starts to shake off her gloom.
When Ali informs his children that he wants to get married, he is met with fierce opposition, especially from Sou'ad. Ali's friends support his wishes, and Monsef tries to change the girls' minds to approve of their father's marriage. Sou'ad discovers that Essam was involved in the robbery.
Sou'ad returns the gold jewelry to the woman that Essam robbed, and asks her to forgive him. As Ali's sweetheart gives him a choice between getting married or leaving her, he gives in to the pressure and agrees to marry her. Sou'ad grows close to Gamal as Reem grows close to their neighbor.
Monsef helps Sou'ad as she prepares to turn her father's shop into a small sewing store. As Gamal tries to get Sou'ad to notice his feelings, Monsef asks Sou'ad to marry Rashid, but she refuses. Essam insists on going to Italy.
Roqaia goes to the hotel where Ali works and quarrels with him. As she demands her money back, Ali's wife sees them and steps in to prevent Roqaia from talking to her husband. Roqaia is surprised to learn about Ali's marriage. Rashida celebrates her wedding.
Roqaia berates Ali for marrying another and vows revenge on him. Essam's attempt to sneak into Italy by sea lands him in prison. The bank approves Sou'ad's project.
Reem pays off the promissory notes. When Ali returns home, his wife asks for a divorce after he quits his job at the hotel and he gives the shop to Sou'ad. Sou'ad's project becomes successful. Essam is released from prison and starts working with Sou'ad.
