The events revolve around the story of a struggle between the authorities, merchants, charlatans, magicians, and those who cover themselves in the guise of religion. Al-Attar feels the charlatans’ control over the authority, so he thinks of a strange trick to keep them away from it by spreading a rumor about the spread of a new disease in the city, then claims that he possesses the cure.
