After leaving her foster home, Star Davis reunites with her sister Simone, and they team up with Alexandra to start a singing group. They meet with their mother's friend Carlotta, who looks after them, and the music producer Jahil.

As Star resorts to extreme measures to get Roland to produce her music, she works on a demo with Alexandra and Simone. Simone struggles with her addiction to prescription medications, and she makes her debut in Carlotta's choir.

As Simone recovers in the hospital, Star tries to figure out the best way to help her out. Jahil gets caught in a dangerous situation, while the girls are racing to record their song in time.

As the girls perform a showcase of classic Gladys Knight songs in an annual hairstyling competition, Simone's confrontation with Otis ends violently.

The girls clash with each other as they work on revamping their style. Carlotta and Jahil expose unwelcome secrets. As the girls go on a shopping spree, Jahil gets kidnapped by masked men.

After Arlene helps Jahil get released from captivity, he makes Alex replace Star as lead singer in a charity event. Jahil wants Hunter to stay away from Star. Carlotta tells Harris the truth about Cotton.

After Danielle's tragic death, Derek organizes a protest at the police station. As Arlene pushes Jahil to fire Star, the girls are forced to let Eva sing in Star's place when she's late for rehearsal.

Hunter invites rapper Pumpkin to the block party to raise funds for Derek's bail. When Jahil decides to add Eva to 'Big Trouble', Star announces that she's leaving the group.

Carlotta becomes a suspect in Otis's murder, and a part from her past is revealed. Alex and Simone work on a new song. Jahil cuts Eva from the group.

As the girls prepare for the Atlanta Next Festival, a sudden development puts their plans in jeopardy. Carlotta reveals a shocking secret. Alex and Derek get in a car accident.

After Alex learns that she's pregnant, Rose wants her to have an abortion. Jahil tries to bond with Cotton. Big Boi makes a tempting offer to the girls. Derek becomes paralyzed after the accident.

Star and Hunter clash, while Carlotta makes a surprising discovery regarding Otis's murder. As the girls are preparing for the festival, Jahil is shocked by a tragic event.
