In an attempt to placate a drug lord, Marty Byrde, a financial advisor from Chicago, promises to launder $500 million in five years, moving his family to the Missouri Ozarks in the process.
Life suddenly changes, and Marty finds himself in a dangerous situation when Ruth's father is freed from jail. An attorney named Helen Pierce makes an effort to stir up the town's still waters.
As a bitter struggle arises between Wendy and Marty over control of the family's fate, Wendy plans to expand the activity, but things take a turn when Wendy's nephew comes to town and chaos erupts.
