In 1451, Mehmed the Conqueror ascends to the Ottoman throne and kills his infant brother Ahmed to prevent a future betrayal. When Mehmed is poisoned by one of his son's men, Bayezid comes to the throne and quarrels with his brother Cem over the throne. His son, the would-be Selim I, kills his cousin.

When Tuman Bay gets lost in Cairo's alleyways, Sultan Qaitbay is wroth that his nephew is missing. Tuman Bay returns to his uncle Qansuh. Meanwhile, Prince Cem flees as Selim objects to his brother Ahmed being made the ruler of Amasia.

Selim's mother asks him to hold his temper and not to give in to his brothers' provocations. A seer predicts that Qansuh Al-Ghuri will die in a fight over the throne. Selim kills his children from his first wife and grooms his son by his second wife for rule.

As Selim's mother dies, his first wife attacks him to avenge her children's murder. Tuman Bay tries to buy his childhood companion, the slave Nelbay, but her owner refuses. Tuman Bay discovers a planned coup against Sultan Qansuh.

Selim chokes his wife to death and teaches his son how to rule through fear. Qansuh orders Khayr Baig to bring him Cebay. Bayezid orders Selim to a remote principality which angers him. Qansuh tries to get Tuman Bay to marry a princess but he insists on marrying Nelbay.

Shah Ismail attacks Persia and nears Bayezid's kingdom. Ali Pasha warns Bayezid that Selim and his men have modern weapons. Tuman Bay sends Jamal to Aleppo where he is arrested and tortured. Selim revolts against his father.

Selim forces a condition that compels the Sultan not to name an heir. As Qansuh goes through a financial crisis, the Mamluks rebel against him and impose taxes on the people. Gamal returns to Cairo with his wife. Selim plots against his father.

When Bayezid tries to declare Selim a Sirdar, Selim forces his father to give up the throne. He kills his brothers and his nephew, Mohamed, upon his ascension to the throne. Qansuh names Tuman Bay the Sultanate's vizier.

Ibn Kamal brings information about Egypt when he comes to congratulate Selim. Selim tries to frame his upcoming invasion as an Islamic conquest. When Qansuh leaves to meet him with his army, he leaves Tuman Bay in charge but Tuman Bay gets stabbed.

As Tuman Bay recovers, Qansuh reaches Damascus and prepares for war with Selim. After being betrayed by two of his Mamluk leaders, Qansuh is defeated by Selim I at the Battle of Marj Dabiq.

The news about the Battle of Marj Dabiq reaches Tuman Bay. Jan Berdi blames Qansuh for the defeat and wants to take over the Sultanate, but the Mamluks choose Tuman Bay. Selim marches on Cairo.

Tuman Bay burns Selim's letter and refuses to surrender. As divisiveness permeates the Mamluks' ranks, Tuman Bay tries to unite them. Jan Berdi betrays Tuman Bay and joins Selim.

Tuman Bay regrets not killing Jan Berdi. Selim appoints Yunus Pasha as Grand Vizier of Egypt. Tuman Bay lures Jan Berdi into a trap and captures him.

Tuman Bay's sister dies when the Ottomans attack Egypt. He turns himself in to spare Egyptain lives and he's executed as his friends and supporters watch.
