In 1941, during the German invasion of the Soviet Union, tank commander, Nikolay Ivkushin, was in charge of T-34, a war-damaged tank. After a major German battle, he gets captured and spends the next three years in a Nazi concentration camp. When the German Division asks him to recruit a Russian crew to man the T-34 once more for German target practice, he perceives their ultimate escape plan.
