The plot follows an ex-con and a vagabond who illegally adopts a nine-year-old girl, whom he teaches all kinds of swindling so she would be able to face the cruelty of life on the street. Their adventures continue until they encounter a widowed businesswoman, and as they feel an uncontrollable desire to exploit her house and money, they end up becoming attached to each other.
