Called to retrieve the remains of his late father, the trip proves challenging as Patrick's tentative attempt to overcome his addiction is steamrolled by the memories of the abuse his father inflicted on him.

Heroin withdrawal forces Patrick to relive a traumatic childhood memory during which the adults around him either contributed to his trauma or pretended not to see what is happening to him.

Patrick reveals the extent of his father's sexual abuse to his friend, Johnny. At a party with Princess Margaret, her unpleasant behavior brings to mind painful memories for Patrick.

Patrick confronts the resentment he harbors towards his mother for her willful ignorance of his abuse. His visit to his mother causes him to relapse, putting his marriage in jeopardy.

In the wake of his mother's death, Patrick reflects on his revelation about his father being a sexual predator and his confrontation with his mother.
