After his release from Alcatraz, Bumpy Johnson returns to Harlem to take back his territory from the Italians, and he teams up with his old friend Malcolm X.

Bumpy discovers that in order to take control of Harlem, he has to find a drug supply away from the Italians. Chin is trying to catch Bumpy.

Bumpy is helping Elise after her shoplifting arrest, while tension rises in Harlem.

As Cassius Clay faces local boxing hero Doug Jones, Mayme and Malcolm push Bumpy to back each of the boxers. Chin is starting a territorial war with Bonnano.

Chin tries to get back at Bumpy by fixing a bet. Stella and Teddy are arrested for kissing. Elise finds guidance through following the Nation of Islam.

Bumpy is hired to kill a witness who's testifying against the Genovese family. Elijah Muhammad asks Elise to spy on Malcolm X. Chin learns that Teddy is still alive.

Bumpy drives a wedge between the Genovese and Bonanno families. Mayme works with Elise to find Margaret who goes missing, and Stella exposes a family secret.

Chin and Bonnano are facing each other at Harlem. Bumpy asks for Elise's permission to formally adopt Margaret. Malcolm X and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. head to D.C. for the March.

Adam Clayton Powell Jr. leads a rent strike after witnessing the poor conditions in Harlem. Bumpy and Mayme's marriage is facing difficulties.

In an attempt to keep his family safe, Bumpy blackmails the mob. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy takes place. Teddy has a performance at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
