Walden suffers a heart attack as everyone prepares for Halloween. Walden intends to live his life in a new way going forward. Alan's future is significantly impacted by his choices, though.

As a result of wanting to adopt a kid, Walden chooses to wed Alan, but Walden doesn't want to travel to Ibiza for his wedding, whereas Alan would like to.

A meeting with an adoption social worker requires Alan and Walden to present as a loving couple, but their plan may be threatened by Lyndsey's exit from rehab.

The social worker for Walden and Alan claims that a pregnant college girl wants to give up her unborn child. Walden and Alan are joined in celebration by Herb, Barry, and Larry.

Ms. McMartin approaches Walden and Alan and asks them if they would think about adopting Louis, a six-year-old kid. Eventually, Louis is made to feel at home by Walden with great effort.

Louis gets fostered by Alan and Walden with Ms. McMartin's approval. In an effort to obtain what he wants, Louis starts to manipulate Alan as he develops an obsession with becoming a cool dad.

When Walden develops feelings for one of the mothers and Alan joins the other mothers on a wild girls' night, their relationship with the three mothers gets problematic.

Walden wants to give Louis, who no longer believes in Christmas, the ideal Christmas celebration. Santa, Alan's mother Evelyn, and his stinginess, however, pose a threat to undo everything.

In order to continue where they left off the last time they were together, Walden and Laurel schedule a playdate for their children. Herb requests permission from Alan to ask Lyndsey out.

Ms. McMartin threatens to take Louis after learning that Walden and Alan are pretending to be gay. Alan, though, has a strategy to influence her decision.

Walden realizes that attending a support group for adoptive fathers provides a relaxing break from Alan.

Walden is concerned that Alan's breakup with their social worker and subsequent reconciliation with Lyndsey would have an effect on Louis' adoption.

When Lyndsey invites Alan to move into her house, he balks because he gets concerned about the consequences with Ms. McMartin.

Walden presents Alan with a gift when their divorce is finalized, but Alan's illogical decision ruins his friendship with Lyndsey.

When Alan receives a threatening parcel and Rose explains the truth, it is proven that Charlie is still alive, which leads Alan to have this suspicion in the first place.
