The Kingdom of Marshovia hopes for the money of the American widow Crystal to save it from bankruptcy through the marriage of the king's nephew Count Danilo to her. Crystal arrives in Paris and switches her identity with her secretary, whom Danilo finds very difficult to woo, but he falls in love with a chorus girl in a cabaret, named Fifi, who is in reality the widow Crystal.
