Dating back to 1907 Najd, Abu Aziz (Aziz's father) passes away, and his brother Abu Saleh (Saleh's father) takes care of his deceased brother's family. Aziz starts working for a creditor to pay off his late father's debt. Abu Saleh flees, and the police search for him.
Abu Saleh dodges the police. Aziz pays off his father's debt to the farm owner, and when his mother passes away, he leaves for Kuwait. The judge investigates Abu Ali for selling bad dates to the public.
Aziz reaches his aunt in Kuwait, and her husband Mosa'ed promises to find him a job and asks Abu Ahmed (Ahmed's father) to hire Aziz as their servant.
Aziz stays with Abu Ahmed and his wife who treat him like a son and a travel companion and shower him with money, and Aziz starts learning everything from him.
Aziz becomes a textile merchant, and Mosa'ed suggests for him to work with the Captain in the sea.
As years pass by and Aziz grows up, he leaves the sea and chooses to start a new business, starting with buying mosque furniture from Iraq and selling it.
Aziz buys the shop next to Abu Ahmed's, and the latter worries his trade might be affected by war. Aziz's aunt passes away.
The war ends after three years. Fairouz is upset that he hasn't got married yet. Aziz buys the house of Abu Abdel Mohsen (Abdel Mohsen's father).
Aziz gets mad at Rowayshed who tries to drive people away from Aziz's store by claiming his merchandise is low-quality. The Captain quarrels with Rowayshed and berates him.
Preparations are made to build a wall around Kuwait and Aziz volunteers. Rowayshed tells his father he wants to wed Noura, but his father passes away and Rowayshed opens up a store.
When a merchant asks for Aziz's store, Rowayshed claims that his store is the one the merchant is looking for and hence gets Aziz's merchandise.
Aziz feels there's something mysterious about Motlaq praising Rowayshed at the cafe. Aziz looks for someone to help him at the store, and the Captain recommends Abdel Raziq.
Aziz asks Motlaq to buy a new house for he wants to bring his siblings from Najd. To ruin Aziz's business, Rowayshed prices his stuff down.
Aziz futilely tries to convince Rowayshed not to reduce the prices to guarantee no one will suffer. Rowayshed convinces Abdel Raziq to leave Aziz and work for him instead, promising him a larger salary. Noura is forced to marry Rowayshed.
Aziz's business expands and he asks Reda to work for him, because his English language is good. Aziz learns to read and write. Aziz is shocked to see the owner of the farm he worked at when he was young works as a porter.
As Noura's husband assaults her, she loses her baby. Aziz asks Hamd to increase the farm-owner-turned-porter salary, and he introduces himself to him and invites him to his place.
Reda advises Aziz to travel to Basra and meet the bank manager to get the money for importing English wool for his trade. Aziz asks Hamd to meet his siblings when they arrive from Najd.
As Aziz meets the manager of the foreign bank, they agree to have the goods sent. Noura returns to her husband's, Rowayshed, house.
The bank manager proposes that Aziz expand his business with the war in the background. Rowayshed tries to get his wife to forgive him and clear the air between the two of them. Abdel Raziq returns to work with Aziz.
Reda collaborates with Aziz in his trade. Aziz's wife gives birth, and so does Fairouz's wife. Aziz travels to Najd where his father's house is, and he is shocked to learn that the farm owner has passed away.
Aziz and Hasana get back from the Hajj (Pilgrimage) and give gifts to everyone. As years pass by, Aziz's business expands to include real estate. Rowayshed's son is now a young man.
Rowayshed ruins his son's project to house doves. Aziz meets Umm So'oud and buys her house. When he learns that she helped him while he was a child, he leaves her the house as well as money.
Aziz expands his real estate business, and his aunt's husband owns a new building. Aziz is interrogated for raising the prices of real estate in his neighborhood.
Aziz buys all the stores in the market, and he's chosen as a member of the house-pricing committee.
Rowayshed's wife complains about his mistreatment of their only son. Aziz is grief-stricken to learn the news of Abu Ahmed's death.
When Rowayshed asks Aziz to be his partner and buy a huge building together, Aziz worries this might negatively affect his job with the pricing committee. He asks Rowayshed to buy the building himself. When the Captain has a problem with his nephew's inheritance, he consults Aziz.
Aziz decides to buy the Captain's house, a property shared by the Captain's nephews. He gives it unto the Captain without getting his share. Umm Ahmed (Ahmed's mother) passes away.
As Umm Ahmed passes away, Hasana has to stay at her brother Fairouz's place. Rowayshed tells Abdel Raziq that the lands and buildings of the neighborhood are to be priced. When the city's ancient wall is demolished, a general sense of rage fills the people.
Hasana's health deteriorates, and Aziz gives Fairouz a hand to help her. Aziz recalls how Hasana took good care of him when he was young. Both Hasana and Noura pass away.
When Rowayshed runs for elections, he asks the Captain and Fairouz to support him. He asks his son Mesh'el to forgive him and come live with him. The Captain passes away, and in the year 1968, Aziz draws his last breath.
