As Sam throws a party in her place, she becomes furious when she finds out that her daughter Max is dating a much older guy. But when Max tells her that she wants to break up with him, Sam steps in to tell him the news.

Sam breaks up with her boyfriend, who accuses her of treating him badly. When Sam goes with her friends to the luxurious house of Sunny's new boyfriend, she ends up staying at a motel to be by herself.

When Sam meets the single father Robin, he invites her to go with him on a weekend getaway, but things take an awkward turn when Sam asks that they have separate rooms.

Sam expresses her worry to Rich about her relationship with Robin, as she thinks that he's a great guy, but she also likes being by herself. Sam's ex-husband comes for a surprise visit.

After Phil injures herself, Sam is considering putting her in a nursing home, but she eventually changes her mind. Robin goes out to dinner with Sam's kids.

Sam feels underappreciated by her kids who don't value her hard work as an actress in order to provide for their lifestyle. She ends up asking Max and Frankie to write a eulogy for her to show their appreciation.

After Sam goes with Jeff to the store to buy a generator, she runs into Robin, whom she stopped seeing, and he tells her he still cares about her. Sam rebuffs Jeff when he tries to kiss her.

When the father of Sam's lazy ex-husband Xander asks to see her, he reveals that he wants her to keep supporting his son financially. Sam teaches Frankie a lesson at the bar mitzvah of Sunny's son.

When Sam goes with the kids to White Rock to visit her uncle Lester and his wife, she discovers family secrets about an aunt of hers who had a history of mental illness, while the kids look around the place.

As she, her family and friends attend Max's high school graduation, Sam is upset when Max's father doesn't come, while she, Frankie, Duke and Phil surprise Max with an unusual gift.
